The Maulers were in a tough situation on Saturday with their season dangling by a thread, after a loss to the Southern Oregon Spartans on Friday. The Maulers were faced with a huge challenge, needing to win on Saturday and Sunday to advance onto division finals against the Idaho Junior Steelheads who defeated the Whitefish Wolverines in two games over the weekend
Terror overwhelmed the GIR when Johan Lovestrom lit the lamp first for the Spartans, a pretty goal assisted by Drew Carriere and Nick Pagliacci, and a lead the Spartans would only cling to for only three and a half minutes before the storm that is the Missoula Maulers destroyed it. A Power Play proved deadly for the Spartans and it was Joey Porco to answer for the Maulers, which also gave Corey Schafer his first of four points on the night, Jacobson also picked up an assist on the goal for his first of three.
This proved as a jump start for the team and especially the defensemen to pull together. Henrik Ekestahl grabbed another goal for Missoula in the second to take the lead, Wyatt Mathews, picked up another tally making 3 for 3 scored by defensemen. Corey Schafer broke the offensive skid and scored Missoula's fourth goal of the night along side top line Sawyer Jacobson and Sam Sevcik. This was a kickstart to Sevicks night who picked up two goals just four minutes apart to end the second.
