It was no doubt that ZooTown was out for revenge on Saturday night. Bouncing back after a 4-1 loss against the Spartans the night before, Noah Parker stopped every single shot that was taken at him, to not only beat Southern Oregon but shut out the third place team!
Maulers vet, Austin Auzzinarro was recently picked up by the Witchata Falls Wildcats on a try out contract, Auzzinarro played all last season and 31 games with the Maulers this season, proving to be a fan favorite and amazing fit with the town. Unfortunetly in this game, moving up is key and that is exactly what he did, we wish him the best of luck and a huge congratulations from all of us here in Zoo! \
With the new move however, the Maulers have been messing with thier lines, putting in players here and there trying to find a match, well they did. And that line is Corey Schafer, Sawyer Jacobson, and Sam Sevcik. This line scored every goal that was netted on Saturday! Welcome to the top, Sam!
Birthday Boy Corey Schafer opened up the scoring in the first period on his first shift on the first line on his twenty first birthday! Just 19 seconds in, what could be called a deadly line, Schafer, Sawyer Jacobson and Sam Sevcik went to work and totally flattened Tymen Edelkoort lll. Andrei Shebelbain added another tally for Missoula at the end of the period to bump the Maulers up 2-0, Schafer picked up another point adding an assist as did Justin Barnes.
The Spartans spent 29 minutes in the box in the first period, taking penalties for too many men, slashing, a minor unsportsmanlike conduct and two major unsportsmanlike conducts and misconducts! Missoula picked up four minutes for slashing and elbowing. Yet all the penalties were killed sucessfully.
Edelkoort kept the Maulers out of the net for half the second as Missoula built up momentum, and it would turn out to be Sam Sevcik, who already had a goal in his pocket from Friday, would shoot his 10th of the season. Jacobson picked up his second assist of the night and Swede, Henrik Ekestahl had his first.
Just 15 seconds later, Sevcik scored again! You'd have thought they'd just won the Stanley cup. Corey Schafer and Sawyer Jacobson, both getting an assit got their third point of the night on that play.
At this point, the Spartans made a change in goaltenders, putting in tiny-5'7 Reed Kinsey, who had beat the Maulers the night before, in the net.
It didn't take Birthday Star Schafer long to figure Kinsey out, scoring less than two minutes after Sevcik, who would also pick up an assist and who else but Sawyer Jacobson!
This would turn out to be the last goal of the night with Reed Kinsey keeping the red hot Maulers off the board. Noah Parker, who recorded a shutout said in his post game interview "The guys in front of me made it really easy!"
