Sometimes, you just don't even know where to start. It was another crazy night at the Glacier Ice Rink on Saturday when the Seattle Totems were hoping to retaliate from a 7-1 loss the night before. The Maulers took down the Totems, playing 60 minutes of solid hockey and goalie Noah Parker notched a 96 save percentage in the win.
Aron Holmgren got the start for Missoula on Saturday, hoping to once again show us why he belongs in Missoula. Seattle didn't get the start they were hoping for, or the start they had on Friday, after netting the first goal of the weekend, which also turned out to be the only goal they scored on the night.
Evan Dowart opened up the scoring with his second goal of the season, just three minutes into the first, Shalamov grabbed his first point of the night, notching an assist as did Tyler Zanhuisen, to get the Maulers rolling.
Damon Hanson grabbed the next goal off a pretty play from Tanner Todd and Andrei Shebelbain. Six minutes later, Shalamov got his own goal to tally his second point of the period and second goal on the weekend. Corey Schafer and Domantas Cypas also grabbed points on that goal.
The period ended on that goal and the Totems were down 3-0. Just two minutes into the period, Andrei Shebelbain, with a hat trick from the night before and a point from the first already under his belt, picked up a goal and before the announcer could even finish calling it, he scored another 10 seconds later! Tanner Toddd grabbed his second and third points on the goals and Cypas, his second.
Edward Pollon, started throwing sparks when he scored less than two minutes after Shebelbain, with an unassisted goal. Marek Namec answered for Seattle, lighting the lamp and bringing the score up 6-1. Jacobson retaliated, getting the goal and six goal lead back a minute later. But the battler between the Maulers and Namec went on when he came right back and put the puck past Holmgren.
It was then the Maulers finally capitalized on a power play and this time it was Zoo native Paige Maul who stole the six goal lead back from the Totems.
Pollon added another power play goal to bring an end to the second, up 9-2.
A hatty hungry Pollon broke out of the door like a bat out of hell in third and netted his third goal just a minute and sixteen seconds in and with yet another unassisted goal! But why only score a hat trick when you can score a natrual hat trick!? And that was exactly what Pollon did, scoring yet again three minutes later!
I guess 11-1 wasnt quite what the Totems had in mind, Duncan Long grabbed another goal for the Totems but it was answered back on the other end by Justin Barnes, his third goal of the season!
The only person who had more points than Pollon was Alex Shalamov who helped score five of the 12 goals scored for Missoula, which was good enough for the third place star position. Shebelbain who scored twice and had an assist was second and Pollon who ended the night with four goals was the #1 star in Missoula. On Saturday alone he scored a third of the goals he has scored all season! He now holds 12 goals and 19 assists, good for 31 points!
The Maulers will have thier last regular season home game on Saturday, February 28th where they will square off against the Totems again. The Maulers are currently sitting in second place, seven points up on the third place Southern Oregon Spartans and 11 points behind the first place Idaho Steelheads. The Maulers are hoping for their second WSHL playoff appearance to be deeper this season, after a five game tumble against the Steelheads last year that put the season to an abrupt end. So Come on down to the Glacier Ice Rink and be ready to cheer!
